Now this one is a departure from the other versions of the Cornscala. This is a two-way. I had not really considered doing a two-way until recently when I became aware of the Faital Pro HF200 Driver. 2-inch drivers that can do a range off 400hz to near 20khz without a large amount of equalization are hard to find and the ones that can do that are very expensive...,that is, until the Faital Pro HF200 driver came along.
So, with a pair of these drivers being $500.00 and not having to have a tweeter, and being able to use a relatively simple passive crossover, this speaker becomes practical. The only other driver that I thought could do this before the Faital driver was the TAD 4002 at around $2500.00 per pair!!!
With testing here in our shop, we decided on 500hz for the crossover point. We get a frequency response conforming to about plus or minus 5db all the way up to around 20khz.
The following components are used.
Pair of Faital Pro HF200 (or HF140) Drivers $550.00
Pair of M2380 (or Faital Pro LTH142 Tractrix) horns $130.00
Pair of CW1526CF woofers $275.00
Pair of CS500 2-way crossovers $200.00 (This is the original on a 6 X 10 cedar board which is meant to mount inside the cabinet and have input wires going from the input terminals on the back of the cabinet to the crossover.)
Pair of NEW STYLE Cornscala Crossovers $230.00
Total for internal parts $1155.00 or $1185.00 with the NEW STYLE crossovers.
UPDATE 5/19/2011
This is something some of you might be interested in. In the parts list above, using the M2380 horn, we see some HF droop because of the CD nature of the horn. I incorporated an HF Boost circuit in the crossover to compensate for that droop. BUT, now I have found a new horn and driver that eliminates that droop and any need for HF boost. This is the Faital Pro HF140 1.4 inch HF driver and the Faital Pro LTH142 oval Tractrix Horn. This is the only tractrix horn I have ever found and the I think there are good audible benefits from the tractrix horn design. Most immediately noticeable is that the sound is pretty much the sound anywhere in the room rather than being limited to a so called "sweet spot".
Some pictures of the Faital Pro LTH142 horn and HF140 driver at the bottom of this page.

UPDATE 6/14/2011
Added drawing links below for the cabinet using the Faital Pro LTH 142 Tractrix horn.
Cabinet
Pair of Style D Motorboards $210.00
Pair of Style D Grill Frames (cut from 3/16 hardboard) $60.00
Pair of complete (but unfinished and unassembled) cabinets $450.00. This would include the 2 motorboards, 2 grill frames and two cabinets.
For us to assemble the cabinets $50.00
We have Klipsch Heritage 17 Black grill fabric for $28.00 per yard (36 X 72 inches) plus $12.00 for shipping. We are not yet at the point we can install the fabric on the grill frame.
We cut the motorboards from Russian Birch. This is the same material from the same supplier Klipsch is using now for their birch cabinets.
NOTE: Shipping for these parts in the US (lower 48 states) will be a combination of USPS Priority Mail and UPS Ground. The amount charged will depend on your location. You will need to give me your shipping address for a quote. The mototboards will be UPS ground and will run around $40.00 to $60.00 depending on your location. For the motorboards, we will be building a wooden crate for shipping by UPS Ground. I think the total shipping on all these parts in the US (lower 48 states) will be under $150.00.
For other places (outside the US and outside the lower 48 states) all except the motorboards can be shipped by USPS Priority Mail International. Shipping to Canada for the motorboards should be fairly reasonable by UPS also. I can provide a quote on request.
